Tambo Machay, Puca-Pucara, Qenko (26 April 2006)

We spent a day just to the north of Cuzco visiting ruins via horseback. After and hour or so of riding we arrived at Tambo Machay - Inca ruins with a ceremonial stone bath. Perhaps the fountain of youth? It is still functioning.

A beautiful day, here is Lorena and I resting on top of the Inca fortress ruin of Puca-Pucara.

Unfortunately Kate was unwell (due to the altitude) so she and Mary returned to Cuzco via public bus. Lorena, Emma and I rode on to the ruins of Qenko from where we had to continue on foot. The horses were a great way to travel.

Qenko was quite a maze of tunnels, shrines and altars. About to enter L-R Emma, John, Lorena.

A view over Cuzco from Sacsayhuamán.
